Business / Complex Litigation

We have protected our clients’ interests in complex business litigation for over fifty years. Our seasoned attorneys are advocates for our clients in resolving effectively and efficiently a wide variety of disputes that arise from business transactions and business relationships.

We focus on what matters to you. Whether your case is a relatively straight-forward dispute involving a breach of contract or a highly-complex multi-party lawsuit, we determine the appropriate approach and plan for each case. Our clients appreciate that we do not “over lawyer” a case with more attorneys than is necessary. At the same time, we thoroughly prepare our cases to put our clients in the best possible position to achieve success. We provide value to our clients because our experience – the average years of experience among our attorneys is nearly 20 years – reduces learning curves and delays.

The expertise of our attorneys in business litigation has been recognized by Best Lawyers© for “Bet the Company” litigation and commercial litigation; Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite for litigation, anti-trust, bankruptcy, and construction law: North Carolina Super Lawyers for business litigation and general litigation: and by Benchmark Litigation in the area of litigation.

We regularly handle cases in all North Carolina trial and appellate courts, including the North Carolina Business Court. The same is true with all three North Carolina federal district courts and the United States appellate courts. We regularly participate in cases outside of North Carolina as well and utilize local counsel to assist, as necessary.

Our attorneys are uniquely experienced in practicing before State and federal administrative agencies as well as arbitration forums such as AAA and FINRA. Our attorneys have also handled international arbitrations in the United States and Europe.

We recognize that our clients often are best served by avoiding litigation. Accordingly, we provide pre-litigation counseling to clients, devising strategies to avoid litigation and to maximize the prospects for success if litigation cannot be avoided. We also use various alternative dispute resolution approaches on behalf of clients when appropriate to reduce the cost of resolving disputes. Three of our litigation attorneys are certified mediators and/or have experience as arbitrators.

The services we provide cover the spectrum of business disputes including litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution. Recently, we have handled business disputes arising out of the following:
