A Nov. 15 federal court decision reverses the increase in the salary threshold for white-collar exemptions from overtime which had been set to increase to $58,656 effective Jan. 1, 2025. The decision also reversed the July 1, 2024 salary exemption threshold increase from $35,568 to $43,880.
This puts the salary threshold for over-time exemptions back to the 2019 overtime level of $35,568 annually ($684 per week).
The decision of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas applies nationwide.
It is important to remember that white-collar exemptions from overtime pay are satisfied when workers fulfill the job duties tests and meet the salary threshold.
