Due to his many years of experience, a loyal client base, and mentoring from the likes of Charlie Fulton (arguably the preeminent real property practitioner in North Carolina prior to his retirement), Barry has one of the most well-established and diverse real property practices in the entire state.
Barry has been practicing Real Property Law with Manning, Fulton & Skinner since graduating from UNC School of Law at Chapel Hill in 1982.
About
With a practice based primarily in the Triangle, Barry handles real estate transactions that range from the routine to the complex, many of which have altered the physical landscape of Raleigh and surrounding areas. Specifically, Barry assists commercial real estate purchasers, sellers, developers and investors with all aspects of the acquisition, financing, development, leasing and/or sale of a variety of commercial properties. The type of projects on which Barry works includes raw land assemblages, small and large office buildings, individual warehouses and warehouse projects, multi-family (apartment) projects and retail shopping centers. For the last several years, Barry has been primarily focused on assisting the buyers and sellers of apartment projects over a four-state region, representing the owners and sellers of large tracts of land, and handling various legal needs and requests from title insurance companies and their insureds.
Barry enjoys both a professional and personal relationship with many of the clients he represents, a list that includes both large national or regional developers as well as several local developers. Furthermore, Barry is ably assisted in his practice by some of the best real estate paralegals anywhere including Teri Bowling, the recipient in 2008 of the inaugural Distinguished Paralegal Award given by the Paralegal Division of the North Carolina Bar Association and a former, long-time instructor at the Meredith College of Paralegal Studies.

Representative Matters
- Serves currently as general counsel to a Raleigh, NC-based apartment purchaser, investor and developer which is active in the acquisition, sale and development of multifamily projects throughout North Carolina and in South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia.
- Serves currently as general counsel to a New York City-based apartment purchaser and investor and developer which is active in the acquisition, sale and development of multifamily projects throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
- Represented the City of Raleigh in 2015 in its acquisition of the Dorothea Dix property from the State of North Carolina, which property will be eventually developed, after much planning, into one of the premier municipal parks in the United States.
- Worked for several years on the assemblage of the property that was eventually developed as Brier Creek, a multi-use development located at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and I-540.
- Worked for many years early in his career on the assemblage of the property that became Imperial Center, a premier office park with complimentary retail and hospitality components located on I-40, and continues to represent the on-site developer in the future development of this commercial park.
- Worked on the assemblage of property in Morrisville, NC that was eventually developed as Town Hall Commons, and continues to represent the development group of that project in its development activities.
- Worked on the assemblage of 5401 North, a mixed-used project located at the northeast intersection of Highway 401 North and I-540, and continues to represent the developer there with its many real estate needs at the project.
- Has represented and continues to represent a myriad of clients who effectuate 1031 exchanges in connection with the sale and acquisition of real property.
- Represents landlords and tenants in the preparation and negotiation of commercial leases in office, warehouse and retail projects.
- Has represented for many years all of the major title insurance companies that operate in North Carolina in the examination, evaluation and certification of titles, and in the resolving title questions and issues.
